What is the intended goal of this program?

To provide services that minimize the impact of mental illness in the lives of individuals served while supporting their inclusion in the community

Who uses this program?

  • Individuals 18 years and older with a mental health diagnosis.
  • Individuals 18 years old who are currently in high school must utilize the Children, Young Adults, & Families Program until they graduate from high school.  Once graduated, if continued services are warranted, the individual can be referred to the Adult Counseling Program.

What does this program do?

  • Provides counseling and psychotherapy services to assist with enhancing the psychological and social functioning of individuals served.
  • Assists individuals to develop appropriate coping strategies to effectively manage mental health symptoms.
  • Assists individuals in identifying and understanding deficits; helps to facilitate increased self-awareness, self-esteem, acceptance, and insight while encouraging appropriate behavioral changes.

How do I get started in this program?

  • All clients must be referred to this program by the Intake & Assessment Department, or from another program within the agency. Where to go:  Individuals not currently receiving services with Clayton Center begin by scheduling an intake at Clayton Center’s Adult Behavioral Health Services Center, 853 Battle Creek Road, Jonesboro, GA  30236.  Clayton Center intakes are scheduled by calling our Centralized Scheduling line at 1-844-GET-APPT (1-844-438-2778). At the time of intake, request a referral to Adult Day Services.
  • What to bring with them: At the time of intake, all individuals must bring picture id, insurance information, proof of address and proof of $ amount and source of income.

After being referred by a department or program within the agency, no additional documents are needed.  The referring department will have already processed all necessary documentation.

  • Group Counseling
  • Family Counseling
  • Individual Counseling is currently available on a limited basis

When are services provided?

  • Counseling services are provided Mondays through Fridays 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Individuals needing services earlier or later may have their requests considered on a case by case basis. Limited slots available on Wednesdays till 6:00 pm.

VA Services

Clayton Center provides mental health and substance abuse services to military veterans referred under contract by the Atlanta VA Medical Center.

How do I get started in this program?

  • Individuals must have been referred and are currently under contract through the Atlanta VA Medical Center for either mental health or substance abuse treatment.
  • Individuals must first present for an assessment at the Atlanta VA Medical Center and receive a referral prior to beginning services at Clayton Center.

Who uses this program?

  • Individuals referred by the Atlanta VA Medical Center with mental health and/or substance-related disorders.

What does this program do?

  • Assists individuals with the effective management of symptoms related to mental health and substance-related disorders utilizing psychiatric services.
  • Provides counseling and psychotherapy services to assist with enhancing the psychological and social functioning of individuals served.
  • Assists individuals to develop appropriate coping strategies and relapse prevention skills to effectively manage mental health and substance-related symptoms.
  • Assists individuals in identifying and understanding deficits; helps to facilitate increased self-awareness, self-esteem, acceptance, and insight while encouraging appropriate behavioral changes.

Who are the providers of these services?

  • Licensed counselors who are prior military service members with a history of working with military veterans in a counseling capacity.
  • Medical professionals with a history of working with military veterans in a psychiatric capacity.
